My Dad and I…

My Dad and I

My dad and I have a very special relationship. It’s one that started when I was young (of course). I was his first baby girl. A child is (or should be) special to a father but being a a first always gives a daughter a special place in her father’s heart. Our relationship is ever-growing and changing.

I believe father-daughter relationships are special because of what it teaches both parties. First, it teaches a man about how he would like another man to treat a woman. This happens because not only does he, as a father, realizes how precious a baby is he also realizes how fragile a baby girl is. From the beginning of his daughter’s life he can see the transformation from child to woman and what it truly takes to make an extraordinary human being. It also teaches the daughter was she wants (and sometimes doesn’t want) in a man. If he is a part of her life, he is the male figure who she will compare every other man against. This relationship tends to be one of the most significant and influential relationships either individual could have, for better or worse. I believe it’s the type of relationship that continues to grow and change yet somehow, remains the same.

WHAT’S YOUR RELATIONSHIP LIKE?

Sincerely,

J.Alexander

One Response to “My Dad and I…”

My father works around 80-90 hours a week and must travel a lot for his job. He is a firm believer of a man must work until he has nothing left within himself. Therefore, he works in the very dangerous field of rig drilling.
I did not have a close relationship with my father growing up. I have very few memories of him before I was 14 and my parents divorced. I had the typical memories of Christmas, Thanksgiving, and our anual camping trip, but that was pretty much it. My relationship with my father has been very rough, rocky and scary! I am not extremely close to him where he is the first one I call in a time of need, but I know that if I did he would be there. He just is rarely in town so calling him would not do me too much good ha ha.

I recently went on a camping trip with my father and step mother. It was very rare and nice because for once for 3 days it was a lot of quality time with just my father, step mother, my boyfriend and I. We spent one night with his parents as well. However, it was just so rare. When my dad is in town and has time to get together with everyone it usually includes everyone, my two sisters and their families, sometimes my aunt and cousins, and my grand parents. I love my father and am exceptionally proud of who he is as a man! I just really also always wished I had an ever closer relationship with him.
